To celebrate recovery from addiction, build community awareness that recovery works and educate on the different pathways to recovery, and to help fundraise for local non-profit recovery resources. With increased awareness comes a hopeful expansion of effective services for those in need, and a shattering of the stigma associated with addiction. We also want to send a message of hope to addicts and their loved ones.
To accomplish this mission, a group of volunteers from the Women’s Oxford House sober house in Burlington, Vermont, started a fundraising walk in 2013 and gave all the proceeds for that year to the Turning Point Center of Chittenden County. They called the event “Step Into Action.” The walk was amazingly successful, thanks to the passion of the organizers and the strength of their personal networks.
In 2015, more of us jumped on the bandwagon and "Stepped Into Action," to further promote this awesome walk and create an annual event with statewide impact. Together, we can do great things and send a strong and meaningful message to all those whose lives have been impacted by addiction.
Money from the Step Into Action walk will go to non-profit recovery resources around Vermont. Simply go to firstgiving.com to give securely online.
When you give to an individual or a team, your donation will support the center they’ve chosen.
When you give to cause, you choose where you want your donation to go.
All proceeds collected are going to support the Catamount Recovery Program, Story Yoga,Vermont Foundation of Recovery (VFOR) and Turning Point Center, Chittenden County.
If you're sponsoring a walker, your contributions will go toward the organization selected by the walker.
In Burlington, Vermont – the state’s largest city. The walk starts and ends at the First Unitarian Universalist Society (the “church at the top of Church Street”), and the route winds a 1.5 mile course through the downtown area.
The exact location is 152 Pearl St. Burlington, VT 05401.
There are a few parking garages in the area. There is one located on Bank Street across from the Methodist Church. There is also one next to Hotel Vermont on Cherry St. Burlington now offers ParkMobile and there is some free parking on Elmwood Ave. There is limited parking behind the church which we are reserving for anyone with special needs.

Addiction touches all of our lives in some way – some of us directly (we are addicts ourselves), some of us indirectly (we are family or friends of an addict) and some of us, simply by virtue of sharing a community with people whose lives are being destroyed by the disease.
If you want to send a message of hope to those currently struggling with addiction…if you want to show your pride and gratitude as an addiction survivor…if you want to honor the memory of a loved one who succumbed to the disease…or, if you simply want to make a contribution toward a stronger, healthier, safer community… then sign up to Step Into Action!
