RECOVERY WALK BURLINGTON, VERMONT

ABOUT THE WALK

What is the walk?

To celebrate recovery from addiction, build community awareness that recovery works and educate on the different pathways to recovery, and to help fundraise for local non-profit recovery resources. With increased awareness comes a hopeful expansion of effective services for those in need, and a shattering of the stigma associated with addiction. We also want to send a message of hope to addicts and their loved ones.

To accomplish this mission, a group of volunteers from the Women’s Oxford House sober house in Burlington, Vermont, started a fundraising walk in 2013 and gave all the proceeds for that year to the Turning Point Center of Chittenden County. They called the event “Step Into Action.” The walk was amazingly successful, thanks to the passion of the organizers and the strength of their personal networks.

In 2015, more of us jumped on the bandwagon and "Stepped Into Action," to further promote this awesome walk and create an annual event with statewide impact. Together, we can do great things and send a strong and meaningful message to all those whose lives have been impacted by addiction.

Who benefits from the walk?

Your local recovery resources!

Money from the Step Into Action walk will go to non-profit recovery resources around Vermont. Simply go to firstgiving.com to give securely online.

When you give to an individual or a team, your donation will support the organization they’ve chosen. When you register or make an online donation, you choose where you want your donation to go.

All proceeds collected are going to support Story Yoga, Vermont Foundation of Recovery, UVM Catamount Recovery Program, Turning Point Center of Chittenden County, and First Step Recovery House.

Here’s a full list of the groups who’ll benefit, with links to their websites:

If you're sponsoring a walker, your contributions will go toward the organization selected by the walker.

Where is the walk?

We have gone virtual for or our annual event in 2020, no walking required.

We know that many of you would love to gather as a community and you still can – just on a smaller scale. We encourage you to gather (safely) with your friends, family, and housemates and set up a viewing party.

We will be sharing speakers throughout the week over on Facebook and Instagram accounts and then on Saturday, September 19th we will be hosting a live celebration on Zoom.

Why should I walk?

Addiction touches all of our lives in some way – some of us directly (we are addicts ourselves), some of us indirectly (we are family or friends of an addict) and some of us, simply by virtue of sharing a community with people whose lives are being destroyed by the disease.

If you want to send a message of hope to those currently struggling with addiction…if you want to show your pride and gratitude as an addiction survivor…if you want to honor the memory of a loved one who succumbed to the disease…or, if you simply want to make a contribution toward a stronger, healthier, safer community… then sign up to Step Into Action!
